Also on this day, January 23 in 1812 an earthquake estimated to be M 7.8 shook New Madrid, Missouri.

Born on this day in 1951 in Denison, Texas,  American retired Air Force fighter pilot, airline captain, and is U.S. Ambassador to the International Civil Aviation Organization, Chesley Sullenberger III, maybe better known simply as “Sully”.
